Title: Virgin of Chiquinquirá

Artist: Máurel Cortés Sierra

Medium: Oil on canvas

Dimensions: 50 x 70 cm.

The Virgin of Chiquinquirá, Queen and Patroness of Colombia, is a symbol of faith, hope, and spiritual renewal. Her original image—miraculously restored in 1586—is venerated by millions of believers who turn to her for comfort, strength, and miracles.

To her right stands Saint Anthony of Padua, dressed in his Franciscan habit, holding a book and the Child Jesus in his arms—symbols of his wisdom, humility, and ability to recover what is lost, both materially and spiritually. To her left is Saint Andrew the Apostle, identified by his X-shaped cross and a palm branch, representing steadfast faith, sacrifice, and complete devotion to Christ’s message.

This painting pays tribute to the deep spirituality of the Colombian people. Its warm, enveloping colors evoke the divine presence, while the composition invites reflection, prayer, and connection with the sacred. A visual tribute that unites art, tradition, and devotion in a single gaze.
